Best time to leave Nottingham for Manchester Airport

Drive-time bands

  • Overnight (10pm–5am): 1h 40min. Empty roads.
  • 5am–7am: 1h 50min. Perfect for 8am flights.
  • 7am–9:30am: 2h 15min. M6 southbound (yes, southbound) around Stoke gets slow.
  • 9:30am–3pm: 1h 50min.
  • 3pm–7pm: 2h 20min. M6/M56 both slow; airport approach queues.
  • Evening: back to 1h 50min.

Timing rule

  • Short-haul (Jet2, TUI, Ryanair to Europe): leave Nottingham 3h 45min before departure.
  • Long-haul (Emirates, Qatar, Singapore etc): leave 4h 45min before departure. Manchester security is famously slow at peak — 3 hours before flight is not overkill.
