Gatwick is the furthest of the London airports from Nottingham — around three and a half hours via the M1, the M25 clockwise and the M23. It is a long run, and it is also one where a fixed price and a driver who has done it a hundred times is worth a lot.
Route and realistic timing
M1 south to junction 6a, M25 clockwise round the western side, then the M23 to the airport. Overnight: 3 hours 15. Daytime with M25 traffic: 4 hours. The stretch between M25 junctions 12 and 8 is where the time goes.
We plan the pick-up around the arrival time you need, not a flat average, and we would rather sit in a coffee shop at Gatwick for 40 minutes than gamble on the M25 at 08:00.
North or South Terminal?
Gatwick's two terminals are about 10 minutes apart via the inter-terminal shuttle:
- South Terminal: easyJet (the biggest operator at Gatwick), British Airways short-haul, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Vueling and most TUI European charters.
- North Terminal: Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, TUI long-haul, Norse Atlantic, Air Transat and most other long-haul.
Your boarding pass states the terminal. Better still, give us your flight number and we confirm it from live data on the day. Our fare covers either terminal at the same price — no extra for North, no upsell.
Pick-up times
- 06:30 easyJet from South: pick-up 00:00.
- 10:00 Virgin long-haul from North: pick-up 02:30, to clear the M25 before it wakes up.
- 17:00 charter: pick-up 11:00.
Rail from Nottingham: the honest version
St Pancras then the Thameslink straight through to Gatwick is a decent trip in daylight — around £50 to £110 per adult all-in on advance fares, with one change and a lot of luggage handling. For a solo traveller with a cabin bag on a midday flight, take the train.
For two or more people, or anything departing before 09:00, one fixed fare covering the whole car is both cheaper and dramatically less effort.
Coming home
Long-haul arrivals into Gatwick North at 06:00 are exactly when the rank is a lottery. We track the inbound, hold the car, and include an hour of grace time on standard airport pick-ups. Add meet and greet if you want the driver waiting inside arrivals.
