Manchester is the biggest long-haul airport in the North, and for Nottingham travellers it is the airport that unlocks routes East Midlands and Birmingham cannot cover. Our fixed fare from Nottingham starts at £100 for a saloon, with larger vehicles priced up front.
The route and how long it takes
There are two realistic ways over: M1 to the M60 and in from the north, or the A628 Woodhead pass when the motorway is against us. Most of the time the motorway wins.
- Overnight and early morning: 95 to 105 minutes.
- Weekday peak: 2 hours to 2 hours 15 — the M60 around Stockport is the choke point.
- Winter, snow on the Woodhead: motorway only, plus 20 minutes.
We plan the route on the day and build the buffer into the pick-up time rather than hoping.
What time to leave Nottingham
- 06:00 long-haul: pick-up 01:15. Brutal, but Manchester security at 04:00 is the busiest in the North.
- 08:30 long-haul: pick-up 03:45.
- 11:00 short-haul: pick-up 07:00 with peak M60 allowance.
Which terminal?
Manchester runs three terminals and they are not close together on foot:
- Terminal 1: being wound down as T2 expands; still some short-haul European.
- Terminal 2: the expanded flagship — British Airways, Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Singapore, KLM, Lufthansa, Virgin Atlantic and most long-haul TUI.
- Terminal 3: Jet2's main base plus Ryanair overflow. Fast when quiet, a bottleneck between 04:00 and 06:00.
Give us your flight number and we pull the terminal from the live flight data, so a terminal change months after you booked does not land you at the wrong door.
Cheaper than parking? Usually
A week in Manchester's long-stay is around £120 pre-booked, plus roughly £45 of fuel from Nottingham and back, plus the shuttle at each end. That is £165 before anyone drives two hours home after a night flight. Two fixed transfers at £100 each is more for a solo traveller and less stressful; split between two or more people it is comfortably the better deal.
Coming home
We track the inbound flight, including long-haul delays and diversions. Standard airport pick-ups include an hour of grace time, which covers the reality of Manchester baggage reclaim on a full 787. Add meet and greet if you want the driver in arrivals with a name board — it is charged once, on the airport-pickup leg only.
