West Bridgford to East Midlands Airport: timings, prices and the Trent bridge problem

NG2 to EMA is a 25-minute run — unless there is a match at Trent Bridge or the City Ground. Here is how to time it properly.

2026-02-10 · 5 min read

West Bridgford has one of the easiest airport runs in Nottinghamshire and one of the most predictable traffic traps. On a normal morning, NG2 to East Midlands Airport is 25 minutes. On a Test match Saturday or a home matchday, add half an hour and stop arguing with the bridges.

The route from NG2

Most pick-ups leave via Loughborough Road or Wilford Lane, join the A52 west, and take the A453 straight to the terminal. From Compton Acres, Edwalton and Gamston the A52 is on your doorstep, so the run is nearer 22 minutes. From Lady Bay you are adding five minutes to get across.

When the bridges bite

Three things reliably ruin timing in West Bridgford:

  • Trent Bridge cricket: a Test or an international closes off the Radcliffe Road end for hours.
  • Forest home games: from 90 minutes before kick-off, Lady Bay and Trent Bridge are slow in both directions.
  • Riverside events and Rock City-scale concerts at the Motorpoint Arena spill traffic across Wilford and Trent bridges.

If your flight day clashes with any of those, we will pick up 20 minutes earlier and route via Wilford Lane. Just tell us when you book, or leave the flight number and let us plan it.

What time to leave

  • 06:00 short-haul: pick-up 03:35.
  • 07:30 short-haul: pick-up 05:05.
  • 10:00 long-haul charter: pick-up 06:35.

Those all assume two hours at check-in for short-haul, three for long-haul, and 25 minutes of driving. EMA security between 04:00 and 06:30 is the busiest part of the day by a distance.

Fixed price, no meter

You see the fare before you book, and it does not move. That includes the 4am start, the airport drop-off charge and the wait if your inbound is late. If you book the return at the same time, our return discount comes off automatically and is displayed as a round pound figure so the maths is obvious.

Coming back into NG2

Landing back at EMA is where a pre-booked car pays for itself. The rank at East Midlands empties fast when three charters land together at 11pm. With a booking, your driver is tracking the flight and waiting when you clear the hall — and drops you at your own door in Compton Acres or Edwalton rather than the end of the road.

Bigger groups from West Bridgford

Golf trips, hen weekends and extended-family holidays are our bread and butter out of NG2. We will quote a minibus where it genuinely fits the passengers and the luggage, and where a single vehicle cannot take everyone, we will price the cheapest combination of two vehicles as one booking rather than making you place two.
