If you are flying long-haul from Mansfield, Birmingham is usually the sensible airport. It is around 80 minutes away, the terminal is single and simple, and the network — Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, TUI long-haul, Aer Lingus transatlantic connections — covers most of what people actually book.
The route and the timing
A38 to M1 junction 28, south to the M42 at junction 23a, then M42 to junction 6. Clear road: 75 to 80 minutes. Weekday morning: 95 minutes, because the M42 between junctions 7 and 6 backs up almost daily. Friday afternoon: allow 100.
From Mansfield Woodhouse, Warsop and Pleasley add 8 to 12 minutes at the start. From Sutton-in-Ashfield and Kirkby take 5 off.
Setting the pick-up time
Long-haul wants three hours at check-in. That means:
- 07:20 Emirates to Dubai: pick-up 02:35.
- 10:00 Turkish to Istanbul: pick-up 05:15.
- 16:30 TUI long-haul: pick-up 11:45, with the daytime M42 factored in.
If your flight number is in the booking we will sanity-check the pick-up against the schedule and flag anything tight before the day.
Why not East Midlands?
East Midlands is 40 minutes from Mansfield and cheaper to reach, and for a European charter it is the obvious pick. Birmingham earns its extra hour when:
- You are flying long-haul direct rather than connecting.
- The fare difference on the ticket outweighs the transfer difference.
- You want a single terminal and a proper choice of lounges and food at 5am.
What the fixed fare covers
The quoted price includes the airport drop-off charge, the antisocial hour, and waiting time within the standard grace period on the return. No meter, no surge, no per-bag charge. Book both legs together and the return discount is applied automatically and shown as a whole-pound figure.
Vias and multi-stop
Collecting family in Alfreton or Chesterfield on the way south is common on this route. Add each stop as a via when you book — up to eight — and the price recalculates on screen. On a return booking we reverse the order automatically for the way home.
Coming back
Give us the flight number. We watch the arrival and hold the car through delays, with an hour of grace time on standard airport pick-ups. Add meet and greet if you would like the driver in arrivals with a board; it is charged only on the leg that actually picks up from the airport.
